The X5.
The 2027 BMW X5 is the fifth generation of BMW's midsize luxury SUV, built at Plant Spartanburg in South Carolina. The X5 40 xDrive uses an updated 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six with 48V mild-hybrid technology, rated at 394 hp and 428 lb-ft, paired with an eight-speed Steptronic Sport automatic and xDrive all-wheel drive.
The X5 40 xDrive went on sale in October 2026, and the rear-wheel-drive X5 40 and the X5 50e xDrive plug-in hybrid (483 hp, up to 44 miles of estimated electric range) follow in the first quarter of 2027. The wheelbase is 2.4 inches longer than before, cargo space is 27.3 cu ft behind the rear seats and 67.7 cu ft with them folded, and towing capacity is up to 7,710 lb when properly equipped.
It suits buyers who want a two-row midsize luxury SUV with a choice of gasoline or plug-in hybrid power.
